Mother and 4-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized After Violent East Las Vegas Crash on Nellis Boulevard; Teen Driver Arrested
On October 1, 2026, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a violent, high-speed collision at the intersection of North Nellis Boulevard and East Owens Avenue in East Las Vegas. The crash left a mother and her 4-year-old daughter hospitalized in serious condition and resulted in the arrest of a teenage driver.
According to reports from LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section, the mother was driving her passenger vehicle through the Nellis Boulevard and Owens Avenue junction with her 4-year-old daughter secured in the rear passenger compartment. Investigators determined that a Ford sedan operated by a teenage driver was traveling at a high rate of speed along the corridor before colliding violently with the victims’ vehicle. The force of the impact caused severe structural intrusion into the family’s car, crumpling the side panels, triggering multiple airbag deployments, and trapping both occupants inside the wreckage.
Emergency crews with the Clark County Fire Department arrived on scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the victims from the damaged vehicle. Paramedics transported both the mother and the 4-year-old to the University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital of Nevada. Attending physicians confirmed the 4-year-old suffered severe trauma and remains under critical intensive care with life-threatening injuries, while the mother is being treated for multiple fractures and internal contusions.
Police said the teenage driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation. Upon being medically cleared by doctors, Metro officers placed the youth under arrest on felony charges of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm under NRS 484B.653. The suspect was subsequently booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center. Because of the suspect’s legal minor status, the driver’s name and specific juvenile detention booking logs have been withheld from public release.
Investigators from Metro’s Fatal Detail closed the intersection of Nellis and Owens for several hours to survey tire friction marks, calculate post-impact velocity using event data recorders, and gather surveillance footage from nearby commercial retail plazas. Metro Traffic Bureau officials noted that Nellis Boulevard consistently ranks among the most crash-prone corridors across the Las Vegas Valley due to wide travel lanes and frequent speeding infractions.
The crash remains under investigation.
